There are so many things to do in Cairns with kids. Here are some of our favourite free things to do with the kids and the family.
The Cairns Lagoon
Swim all day, in this brilliant lagoon overlooking the Coral Sea. Enjoy a picnic with one of the many free BBQ’s. Showers, toilets, families rooms and lockers. All for free
Visit a new playground
Visit a new playground that you have never been to before! So many good ones to choose from. Take a picnic or have a BBQ
Bouldering or Skateboarding - free lessons
Located near the Cairns hospital on the Esplanade, learn bouldering or skateboarding with free weekly lessons. Thanks to the Cairns Council – Cairns Esplanade
Walk to Trinity Wharf
A short stroll from the Cairns Esplanade, south, past the Pier. Carry on until you reach the fig tree playground (there is also a cafe and a brewery here). Lots of boats and interesting sculptures to see along the way.
There are BBQ and picnic tables here, and a dedicated fishing spot. Enjoy watching boats pass by.
Goomboora Park
Hang out at Goomboola Park for the day! Play in the playground, swim in the creek, take a bike ride or a walk on along the bike trail. Enjoy a picnic under the shady trees. Kick a ball or take the dog to the off leash area.
Go the beach
Enjoy a day at the beach, go for a swim (be stinger / croc wise), have a picnic, collect shells, explore the small rock pools (at some beaches), walk along the beach Espalande.
We enjoy Trinity Beach for the diversity.
Botanic Gardens
Go to the gardens. Look for butterflies, look for ducks and turtles. Enjoy the boardwalks and the diversity here. Finish off with a picnic by the Centenary Lakes Playground.
Skate, Scooter or BMX
Check out one of the amazing Cairns skate parks or Pump Tracks. challenge yourself and try somewhere new like the Gamburra BMX and pump track in Redlynch Valley
