The Fun Ship parkland and playground, at the far northern end of the Cairns Esplanade, better known as the Pirate Ship playground by locals, is one of Cairns most popular and best playgrounds for toddlers and younger children.

Situated at the Northern end of the Cairns Esplanade, this vibrant coloured, highly interactive playground will keep your younger kids entertained for hours, as you relax at one of the many picnic tables, or on the grassed areas under the trees.
There’s so much detail in this playgrounds design, from binoculars and cannons, to the brightly coloured sails. Kids imaginations can run wild, there’s sure to be plenty of pirate games with friends here. The surrounds are all made of soft-fall – rubber padding – so parents can feel reassured that any falls and trips, will be on the soft padding.
This Cairns playground is very popular with Mums groups, birthday parties and other get togethers. It can get quite busy at times. If you want to secure the nearby BBQ facilities you may need to arrive early to stake your claim.
There’s plenty of free parking nearby as well as toilet facilities near the Fun Ship Parkland, which is a large grassed area, perfect for kicking a ball around or throwing a frisbee.
Getting here
By foot / bike: Follow the esplanade pathways and walkways all the way north until the furthest end, this is a very long walk though from the city.
By car: From the city – drive north up either Sheridan or Lake streets, turn right onto Smith Street, and drive until you reach the end of this street, which leads into the playground car park
