“The Gamburra Track is the longest bitumen track in Cairns and caters for all levels of riders, scooters and skaters” Source: Cairns City Council Website. The park also has a basketball half court, and an off leash enclosed dog park.
Those kids who are more skilled, can complete the circuit over and over without pedalling, by using a pumping technique that involves raising the body up on the incline and compressing on the decline to gain momentum. Kids can however, pedal the whole way around if they want to.
The track is also suitable for scooters and skateboards.
This track can get very busy at times, especially at the weekend, but the pump track is great because it’s a loop that keeps everyone going the same way, which means heaps of kids aren’t generally a problem.
Parents report that it’s great for kids of all ages, and so far that everyone has been courteous to each other with taking turns.
The dirt jumps and mounds here are cool too!
There is also a creek by this park and a lot of shade.
Unfortunately there are no toilets, and car parking could be better, but overall another fantastic sporting and recreational space in Cairns.
Getting there: The Gamburra BMX track is located in Redlynch Valley – about 25mins from Cairns CBD. It is on the way to Crystal Cascades (waterfall).
