Calling all older kids! Goomboora Adventure Playground and Park, hands down has to be one of the best spots in Cairns for families and older kids.

The playground is designed for older kids and teens, with challenging rope climbs and a obstacle type course. There are also two flying foxes here, side by side. Sadly two huge fig trees, that use to provide character and shade over the playground came down in 2018 after massive flooding in the area.
Goomboola Park is a gem of a find for those visiting the Cairns region. This special place, set amongst nature, is well known to Cairns locals, and is an extremely popular spot for good reason – it is just so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing here – well maybe not at the weekends when there’s five birthday parties all happening at the same time – which does happen – very often!
You could easily spend half a day here. Take the kids to play on the playground, have a splash in the creek, kick a ball around, go for a bike or take the dog for a run around.
There are many sheltered picnic tables here, or have a picnic under one of the many beautiful trees here. There are also toilet facilities and lots of car parking by the playground.
If you are thinking of having a birthday party here, you will need to book with the Cairns Regional Council to secure a shelter and a table.
This park is often the starting point for bike rides to Redlynch, Brinsmead, Freshwater, Stratford and Cairns City, as it forms part of the Redlynch connection pathway, which is a 5km off-road, 3m wide shared path meandering through cane filed, freshwater creeks and plenty of nature. This excellent short video, posted by the Cairns Regional Council shows exactly what these bike paths look like.

On the opposite side of the playground, there is a huge dog off leash area. This area is not fenced, so caution needs to be taken with young kids if you are wondering around this area.

Getting there: Goomboola Park and Playground is located in the Brinsmead suburb of Cairns
