Jalarra Park and playground is a hidden gem located in Strafford approximately 15 minutes from Cairns CBD. This beautiful park is ideal for picnics, BBQs and family get togethers, and offers plenty of shaded areas either under the magnificent trees or the purpose-built picnic tables.
WARNING ! There is a seasonal creek here that can flow very fast if there has been a lot of rain
The playground is an older playground, but still a goodie. It has monkey bars, slides, rope swing, toddler swing, bridges and climbing nets and bars. Situated under giant trees, keeps this playground out of the sun.
We believe this playground is suitable for all ages, though for independent play it is best suited for an older child. My 9 year old loved this playground, and I was surprised at how long she kept herself entertained here; she didn’t want to leave.
There are huge grassed areas at this park offering plenty of space where the kids can run around, fly a kite, throw a frisbee or kick a ball around.
The park is dog friendly, however they must remain on a leash as there is no off leash area here.
For those feeling a bit more energetic you can walk up the hill at the southern end of the park for elevated views over Statford.
WARNING: During the wet season after heavy rains the seasonal creek in this park can get quite full and flows fast, so caution needs to be taken during this time after recent rains. This Youtube video by Paul McNamana, shows why caution needs to be taken at this time, especially with young children.
Jalarra Park is part of the Stratford Heritage Trail.
You can spend a whole morning or afternoon around Stratford learning about Cairns early history. Its fascinating to look at the old photos dating back more than 100 years. To find out more click here
