Discover a Tropical Gem

Kewarra Beach is a hidden gem, popular with the locals.

With a wide sandy beach, beautiful views, a large under cover BBQ area, small playground and toilets, you can understand why this beach can get very busy at times.

Kewarra Beach is a very residential suburb with houses, not resorts or holiday accommodation overlooking the beach.  There is a wide bike and walking track between them and the beach itself, ideal for kids scooters or bikes!

Unlike many of the other beaches, there is only one resort here, hidden away amongst the Palm Trees. Kewarra beach definitely has a laid back, relaxed and almost secluded feeling to it.

On Fridays and Saturday evenings during the busy period the Kewarra Beach Resorts’ – Beach Shack – right on the beach, is open for pizzas, meals and drinks.

There are no shops near the beach, but there are really good shops on the main Road – Poolwood Road, on the turnoff from the highway down to the beach.  These include take-aways, a bottle shop, pharmacy, cafe, and a great convenience store

Kewarra Beach is patrolled at times by local life savers and there is a stinger net here near the main entrance of the Beach during the stinger season (Nov -April)

As well as a large BBQ area, there are plenty of beach seats to be found all along the pathway here.  What we LOVE the most is that the seats have all been strategically installed at the best vantage points, all offering wonderful views!

Fishing at Kewarra Beach

Kewarra Beach is also a popular spot for fishing. It is possible to catch salmon here, though you will need some good luck as well!
Look out for the Hermit crabs on a low tide.

CHECK the tide times before you arrive!

There's no greater activity for my kids and I than discovering the hermit crabs and beautiful sealife that is uncovered by a good low tide. It's a great way for kids to enjoy beach nature ❤️

Dog Friendly -Off leash Area

The southern part of the beach is a dog off leash area.
This starts at the area of beach commencing 100 metres south of the stinger net and continuing to the rocks at Taylor Point

Bike Tracks and Kids Playground

The bike track here is really wide and runs parallel to the beach – ideal for kids bikes and scooters.

There is a small playground here too, near the BBQ area.  Hint – if looking for a better playground for older kids, there is one nearby at Brolgar Park

The interesting end of the beach

The southern part of the bach is also what we call the “interesting end” of the beach with high trees and fallen logs, which the kids just love to explore and play on

Getting to Kewarra Beach

Kewarra Beach is approximately 25 mins north of Cairns and 10 minutes south of Palm Cove.  There is a regular bus service available.

Brolga Park Playground

Only a five minute walk from the southern side of Kewarra Beach is a better playground, especially for older kids.  There is a path that goes from the beach to the road, to make it even quicker to get there.
