Without a doubt, Muddy’s playground and splash park on the Cairns Esplanade would have to be the best, and the most popular all-ages playground in Cairns. There is so much to do here, in this large, modern and active adventure playground.

There are many different areas, for different aged kids at Muddys playground from toddler areas, water play splash parks, and the huge variety of play areas and equipment for the older kids.
Parents of babies and toddlers, will be reassured by the fully fenced baby and toddlers area, which is only accessible for the smaller kids, keeping the bigger kids well away.
This playground is huge, and the bright colours and details, with the Esplanade backdrop make this a very busy and popular playground.
Some of Muddys features include the numerous water spouts, that shoot water out of the ground, or from the side, a flying fox, climbing ropes, sound chimes, slides, playhouses, see-saw, puzzle games, storytelling area, slides, hamster wheel, rope swing and the giant mudskipper play area, that kids just love to climb on.

Because it’s easy to spend many hours at Muddys, it’s great for parents to be able to get a coffee, snack, ice-cream or meal at Muddy’s Café, situated right in the heart of the playground with outside tables. They have a huge selection of choices and the food is very good. There is also a café on the road nearby as an alternative option.

The council does a marvelous job of keeping Muddys well maintained and cleaned every day, with extra maintenance on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. On these mornings, it may mean that parts of the playground will be closed off, including the water play areas.
There’s a Liberty swing here, for any child using a wheelchair to access. You will need to get the key from the Muddys cafe.

Getting there
Located about 1km north from the Esplanade Lagoon, you can easily get here on foot along the Esplanades boardwalk. Arriving by car, there is a car park about 100m north of the playground, though often you may be lucky enough to get one on the ride just outside. If staying in Cairns, then just follow the boardwalk all the way up until you reach Muddys – we suggest you bring your stroller, as it is a long walk for the little ones.
