Port Douglas, an hour north of Cairns is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.  
We’ll show you the 5 best playgrounds for those families who just want a quiet, relaxing day out with their kids, while visiting this beautiful part of the world.

1. Rex Smeal Park & Playground

Rex Smeal Park and playground is a lovely open area park offering fantastic views of the inlet and rainforest. 
The playground is better suited for younger kids and now only consists of a couple of swings as the previous Pirate ship playground had to be removed due to safety concerns. 
HOWEVER at some stage in the future there is going to be an awesome new playground built here.  Can’t wait to see it!

There’s giant fig trees here, amazing views, BBQ’s, picnic tables and toilets.  

Stroll south towards the small church, only a short distance away to get to Market Place Playground.

Getting There: Rex Smeal Park and  Playground is located in Central Port Douglas on the Marina (not the beach) side of town near Flagstaff Hill.

2. Market Park

This is a small, but popular playground located right at the end of the main street in Port Douglas. 

Market Park can get very busy on Sunday mornings when the local Port Douglas Market is on.
There are toilets nearby

Getting There: Market Park is located on Macrossan Street – at the Marina (not beach) side of town, beside the small Church, St Mary’s by the sea.

3. Hutchings Park (Port Gardens)

The Hutchings Park and Playground, located in the residential suburb of Port Gardens is one the best all ages playground in Port. 
There are two separate areas.
The brightly coloured playground is suited for all ages, and there is plenty here for toddlers and younger kids to keep them entertained. 
The new playground has swings, a parent and toddler dual swing, and a climbing frame, all with soft-fall underneath.

There are BBQ’s, picnic tables and toilets here.

Getting There: Hutchings Park Playgrounds is located in a residential area of Port Douglas near the Wildlife Habitat.  Located off Oriole Street.

4. Bruno Riedweg Park

Bruno Riedweg Park is located just off Port Douglas’s Four Mile Beach, but quite some distance down from the main centre of Port Douglas.

There are two sperate areas here, one for the older kids and the other for toddlers.

There are also BBQs and under cover picnic tables.

Getting There: Heading south out of Port Douglas turn left onto Langley Road and follow it down to the beach.

5. Four MilE Beach Park

Four Mile Beach Park is located right near the southern end of four Mile beach. 
This is a newly updated playground and is good for kids of a variety of ages – the swinging rope log being fun for older kids.

There are toilets here as well as picnic tables and direct access to the beach.

Getting There: Heading south out of Port Douglas turn left onto Barrier Street and follow it down to the beach.

GLENGARRY BIG 4 - Water Park

This water play park, pool and jumping pillow is part of the Glengarry Big 4 Holiday Park in Port Douglas. 
The resort allows day visitors to come and use their facilities.

The cost at present (2023) is $15 a person or $50 a family of 4 

Good value for a day of fun!
No booking required.
From 10am to 6pm daily Closed to day passes on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Years Day.

Craiglee Playground - Milman Drive

This is a lovely small playground perfect for younger kids. 
Located in a residential area of Craiglee, just south of Port Douglas

Getting There: Located at the corner of Milman Drive and Jiwal Jiwal in Craiglee, just south of Port Douglas.

George Davis Park Mossman

This is an amazing playground suitable for kids of all ages, plus there is a pump track and skate park here too!
With soft-fall underfoot. and being fully fenced, this really is the best playground in the area! 

Toilets, seats, tables, bbq and plenty of shade.

Please note there are shade cloths here, but at the time the photos were taken they were tied down due to a weather warning.

Getting There: Located in Mossman, 20 minutes North of Port Douglas.
Drive all the way through town and you will find it on the left as you are leaving Mossman.
